it shows 1 year history, Cayman Islands holdings not overly large, minimal trend in ownership over the last year. The grand total of foreign ownership is $8.7T. The remaining $28T of our debt must be held by domestic owners.
is historical data available for past years so we can see if the balance ramped up recently? could it have been used to tame the bond market in the face of selling pressure from foreign central banks?
The most interesting question is how the Cayman Islands would have that much fiat to buy those bonds. It’s coming from somewhere and it’s not the tourist industry.
