NYSE Flash Crash
Berkshire Hathaway and Barrick Gold down around 99%. This time they bounced back as far as digits on a screen are concerned.
The quote "gradually, then suddenly" is from Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel "The Sun Also Rises". It appears in a conversation between two characters, Bill and Mike, at a cafe in Pamplona, Spain. Mike utters this line when describing how he went bankrupt:
"How did you go bankrupt?" Bill asked.
"Two ways," Mike said. "Gradually and then suddenly."
This quote captures the idea that major life events or changes, like financial ruin, often happen slowly over time through a series of smaller missteps or setbacks, until a tipping point is reached and everything unravels rapidly.
This is called a Flash Crash
